Out-toeing and in-toeing in patients with Perthes disease: role of the femoral hump.

BACKGROUND Some patients with Perthes disease develop abnormal gait in the transverse plane, that is, out-toeing or in-toeing. Considering that this phenomenon occurs mainly in patients who presented late without previous treatment or failed in the containment treatment, we postulated that the deformed femoral head and its impingement to the acetabulum may play an important role in the pathomec...

In-toeing and out-toeing gait conservative treatment; hip anteversion and retroversion: 10-year follow-up

BACKGROUND In-toeing and out-toeing rotational deformities are among the most common referrals for consultation with orthopedic specialists. Although a few number of patients need surgical interventions, most of them get better spontaneously without major complications in adult life. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of permanent gait deformities due to hip rotational disorders in a...

Orthotic devices with out-toeing wedge as treatment for in-toed gait in children.

BACKGROUND Orthotic devices are used to help children progressively acquire a more physiologic walking pattern. METHODS To determine the effect of an orthotic device with an out-toeing wedge along with a physiologic shoe as treatment for in-toed gait, angle of gait was measured in 48 children aged 3 to 14 years with in-toed gait. The following comparisons were made: angle of gait in children ...

Therapeutic Effect of Microcurrent Therapy in Children With In-toeing Gait Caused by Increased Femoral Anteversion: A Pilot Study

OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy of portable microcurrent therapy device (PMTD) of the hip internal rotators in the treatment of in-toeing gait caused by increased femoral anteversion in children over 8 years of age. METHODS Eleven children (22 legs; 4 boys and 7 girls; mean age, 10.4±1.6 years) with in-toeing gait caused by increased femoral anteversion were included in the present stud...

Maximum force and the center of pressure trajectory length according to foot angles during stair walking

[Purpose] Walking with the feet turned inward or outward often causes issues for the people with these walking patterns. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of in-toeing and out-toeing on maximum force and the center of pressure (COP) trajectory length during stair walking. [Subjects and Methods] The subjects were 30 female university students without orthopedic diseases of t...
